Azorín, whose real name was José Martínez Ruiz, was a prominent Spanish essayist, novelist, and playwright.

Born in 1873 in Monóvar, Alicante, Azorín is known for his modernist literary style and his involvement in the Generation of '98, a group of writers who tackled themes of Spanish identity and the national crisis following the loss of the last colonies in 1898.

His most well-known works include 'La voluntad' and 'Las confesiones de un pequeño filósofo'.
